Panopto - Creating and Sharing Videos
Before You Start
If you’re recording with Zoom, make sure you have the Zoom app installed on your computer
Instructions here: Zoom Download & Sign-In
To record, you’ll also need to be connected to the internet, and use a device with a speaker/microphone (either built into the device or plugged in)
Create a Video with Panopto Capture
This is the recommended method for recording a video in Canvas.
Go to your Canvas course.
Click Panopto from the Course Navigation Menu on the left side of the screen.
You will see a folder at the top with a dropdown menu. The folder defaults to the current course.
Students submitting video assignments should select the assignment folder located under the course folder that is named “Default Term – [Course title] [assignments]”
Click the Create button at the top of the screen.
Select Panopto Capture. The recording screen will open in a new tab.
At the top of the recording screen, click on the Audio button to make sure the correct audio device is selected.
Click on Video to make sure the correct camera is selected.
If you want to share content, click Screens and Apps on the recording screen. Then select which screen or app you’d like to record.
When you’re ready, click the red Record button and navigate to the shared screen or app.
Record your video.
Once you’re done, navigate back to the Panopto recording screen tab and click the red square to stop recording.
The recording will automatically process and publish to the folder you selected. You can choose to Record New, Redo, or Edit your video.

Wait until you see a message reading Upload complete before closing the recording screen tab.
To see the final recording, navigate back to the Panopto section of the Canvas course (and click into the assignments folder if necessary).
Create a Video with Zoom
You can use your computer, tablet, or smartphone (speaker or headphones required) to record a meeting in Zoom, with or without participants. Your recording will automatically be copied to a personal Meeting Recordings folder through Panopto and can then be added to your Canvas course as a resource or an assignment.
Record Your Video
Click here to sign in to your Clark Zoom account with your Clark credentials.
Select Host from upper right section of the screen. From this selection, you can choose to start a meeting with your video on or off, or choose to share only your screen.
If prompted, click Open or Launch Meeting so the Zoom app can open.
Once you’re ready, click the Record button in the Zoom menu bar. Select Record to the Cloud. This will send a copy of the video directly to Panopto. It may take up to 24 hours for the recording to become available, depending on the length of the recording.
Record your video using the controls in the Zoom menu bar.
For more information, see the following: Zoom Host Guide
If you are recording with participants, select Speaker view while recording.
Access Your Zoom Recording in Panopto
Go to your Canvas course.
Select Panopto from the course navigation menu on the left side of the screen.
The Panopto page will show the main Panopto folder for that course. Click the downward-facing arrow to select My Folder from the list.
You’ll see rectangular buttons representing folders within your Panopto folder. From these options, select Meeting Recordings to find your Zoom recording.
From here, you can edit the video or move it to the course folder so everyone within that course has access to it.
Move To a Course Folder
On the video you’d like to move, click the settings gear icon. This will open a narrow pop-up window within Canvas.
Click the Edit button within the Folder section of this window.
Click the drop-down arrow in the Folder field to open a list of course folders.
Select the correct course folder.
Students: Expand the correct course folder to select the [Assignments] folder within that course.

Upload a Video from Your Personal Device
Note: If you choose this option, you must upload the video through Panopto. Uploading directly to Canvas will cause an error message due to file size.
Capture your recording and save it as one of the following file types: MP4, MOV, WMV.
Go to the Canvas course and click Panopto from the course navigation menu on the left side of the screen.
Select Create, then Upload media.
From the drop-down box at the top of the Panopto window, select the correct course.
Drag your file into the uploader, or click into the gray box to browse your files and select the correct one.
Allow the video to process and close the window as prompted.
