NameCoach - Record and Listen to Name Pronunciations
Before You Start
What is Name Coach?
Name Coach is software that allows all members of the Clark community to record the pronunciation of their names and listen to the correct pronunciations of the names of professors, classmates, students, and colleagues. These pronunciations can be found in Canvas courses, Outlook, and in your NameBadge.
Recording Your Name
Record Name in Canvas
In your internet browser, log into Canvas using your Clark University credentials.
From your Canvas Dashboard, click Account from the menu bar on the left side of the screen.
In the Account pane, click on NameCoach.
Click the Record Name button.
NameCoach will give you 3 options for your name recording:
Web Recorder: Follow the prompts from your internet browser to allow the use of your computer’s microphone.
Uploader: Follow prompts to upload an audio file (e.g. .mp4) that you previously created to use as your name pronunciation recording.
Phone: Enter your phone number to receive an automated call from NameCoach. During this automated call, you’ll be able to record your name pronunciation.
Click Submit and Finish.
Note: If you have a guest account, you may receive an error when logging into Canvas. If this happens, please contact the ITS Help Desk.
Record Name in NameCoach
Recording your pronunciation on the NameCoach website will allow your pronunciation to be available across the NameCoach system – including in your Canvas courses, in Outlook, and in your NameBadge.
Click here and use your Clark account to login.
Choose My NameBadge from the top menu.
Click the Update button under your name
Name Coach will give you 3 options for your name recording.

Listening to Pronunciations
Listen to Pronunciations in Outlook
Note: ITS recommends using the NameCoach plugin with Outlook 2021 or Outlook Online.
Outlook 2021
Open the Outlook app on your computer.
Open an email.
Open the NameCoach tool, which is located on the Outlook Home ribbon.
If you cannot locate the NameCoach tool, contact the ITS Help Desk.
Outlook Web App
Log into the Outlook Web App with your Clark account information.
Open an email.
With the email open, click on the ellipses (three dots) located within the email in the upper right corner. Click the NameCoach icon located towards the bottom of the menu.
From the dropdown, choose the name of an email recipient.
If the user has a recording in Name Coach, you can click the play button to hear the user pronounce their name.
If the user hasn’t recorded their name, you will see both of their names, and have the ability to listen to library recordings of other users with the same name.
Listen to Pronunciations in Canvas
In your internet browser, log into Canvas using your Clark University credentials.
From your Canvas Dashboard, select any of your active Canvas courses.
In the course navigation menu, click on NameCoach.
A list of other people in the same Canvas course will appear. If they have recorded name pronunciations, they will be listed under the Recorded Names tab.
To listen to the pronunciation, click on the purple button to the right.
Add Name Pronunciation to Email Signature
Click here and use your Clark account to log into NameCoach.
Scroll to the bottom of the page.
Choose Add Namebadge to your Email Signature.
Choose the display option you prefer (button with no text, button with text, or just a link).
Open your email signature and paste your Namebadge.
Note: If you have a guest account, you may receive an error when logging into NameCoach. If this happens, please contact the ITS Help Desk.
