File Shares - Map to a Mac

Before You Start

You’ll need…

  • Your Clark username and password

  • The full name of the file share you’d like to connect to

  • An internet connection

    • If you are trying to connect from off campus, you will need to be connected to the Clark VPN prior to following these instructions. See instructions: VPN - Install and Connect

File Paths

  • smb://fs.clarku.edu/clarku/username

  • Replacing the username with your Clark username

  • Example: smb://fs.clarku.edu/clarku/helpdesk

  • smb://fs.clarku.edu/dept/

  • Followed by department abbreviation or code

  • Example: smb://fs.clarku.edu/dept/its

  • smb://fs.clarku.edu/research

  • Followed by faculty username/folder name for research shares

  • Example: smb://fs.clarku.edu/research/its_data

  • smb://fs.clarku.edu/class/

  • Followed by class folder information

  • Example: smb://fs.clarku.edu/class/MSC223442

Instructions

  1. Click the Finder icon located at the bottom of your screen image-20240507-184558.png

  2. With the Finder window open, click on the Go menu to open a drop-down menu. Select Connect to Server…

  3. In the “Server Address:” text field, type the full name of the file share using above guidelines.

  4. Click the + button to save path to Favorite Servers.

  5. Select the file share and click Connect.

  6. As the connection is established, you will be asked for your Clark Account credentials.

    1. Enter your Clark email address, “username@clarku.edu” in the “Name” field.

    2. Enter your Clark Account password in the “Password” field.

    3. Select “remember this password in my keychain” unless you are using a public or lab device.

    4. Click “Connect.”

  7. To save the file share to your Finder window, go to the toolbar at the top of your screen and click File. Then select Add to Sidebar.

  8. Repeat Steps 1-6 to map additional file shares to your Mac and save them for easy access.
