Before You Start
Determine the make and model of the specific printer you’re mapping to.
Connected to the Clark network via WiFi, ethernet, or VPN (if remote).
These instructions will only work on Mac computers running MacOS 13 or higher. Determine which version of MacOS your device uses: Apple - Determine MacOS
Have the printer name and printer file path nearby. This information is given to you by the ITS Help Desk.

Setting Up
Download the appropriate driver for your printer’s make and model.
Click the Apple logo in the upper left corner of your screen and select System Settings.
Scroll down to the bottom of the left pane and click Printers & Scanners.
In the Printers & Scanners window, click button labeled Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax…
The next steps are dependent upon which type of printer you are mapping. Please click the correct printer type below to continue:
Canon
HP or Xerox
Mapping to a Canon Printer
In the Add Printer window, you will need to add the Advanced icon. Hold the Control key down on your keyboard and click the blank space next to the icons across the top of the window.
Select Customize Toolbar. Release the Control key.
Drag and drop Advanced into the toolbar of Add Printer.
Now click the Advanced icon. Under Type, select Windows printer via spools. The Device field should say Another Device.
In the URL field, enter the path name for the printer.
File path format for Canon printers: smb://printers.ad.clarku.edu/queue_name.
Example: smb://printers.ad.clarku.edu/151WOOD_Color_MFP_001
In the Name field, input the name of the printer (example: ASEC_COLOR_MFP_001). The Location field is optional.
In the Use drop-down menu, click Select printer software. A new window will open, listing all installed print drivers.
In the search box, type in the model of your printer (example: Canon Color MPF C250iF). Select the correct driver for the printer you are mapping to.
Once all fields are filled in, click Add.
The Printers & Scanners window will close. Open a Word document or a Text Edit document, type in a few words, and then print the page to test the printer connection.
When attempting to print for the first time, you will get a prompt for your Clark credentials. Input your username without the clarku.edu email address
Example: jclark instead of jclark@clarku.edu
Tip: If you do not want to be prompted for your Clark credentials each time that you print, you should check off the “Remember this password in my keychain” option, but only after verifying you are able to print successfully the first time.
Mapping to HP or Xerox Printer
In the Add window, you will need to add the Advanced icon. Hold the Control key down on your keyboard and click the blank space next to the icons at the top of the window.
Click Customize Toolbar. Release the Control key.

Now click the Advanced icon. Under type, select Windows printer via spools. The Device field should say Another Device.

In the Name field, input the name of the printer (example: ASEC_COLOR_MFP_001). The Location field is optional.
