Instructions: Self-Upgrade to Windows 11
Getting Ready
How do I know if my device is ready to upgrade to Windows 11?
Click the Windows Start menu and type Software Center.
Click the app to open it.
In the Software Center window, select Operating Systems from the pane on the left side.
If you see an available upgrade labeled Windows 11, your device is ready! Follow the steps outlined in the Before You Start section below.
Please Note: you may see a pop-up message like the one shown below. You do not need to update immediately upon seeing the pop-up; wait for a convenient time.
Help! I don’t see an option to upgrade.
Check to see if your device is already running Windows 11 by following the steps outlined in the section below. If so, you’re all set and no further action is necessary.
Contact the ITS Help Desk and provide 6-digit asset number on the "Property of Clark University" tag on your device. You can find this on your desktop tower, or on your laptop, and the tag looks similar to the image below.
How can I tell which version of Windows my device is running?
Click the Windows Start menu and type About.
Click About this PC or About your PC (whichever pops up).
In the About window, check if your device is running Windows 10 or Windows 11.
Before You Start
Back up data to OneDrive, external hard drive, or thumb drive.
Set aside 2 hours to complete the upgrade.
You don’t need to be at your computer for the whole two hours, so you may consider starting the upgrade before leaving for lunch or at the end of the day. Be sure to wait until the upgrade is underway before leaving your device.
Complete the upgrade while the device is on campus.
Connect your laptop to your dock for power and a wired Internet connection.
Please Note: you may see a pop-up message like the one shown below. You do not need to update immediately upon seeing the pop-up; wait for a convenient time.
