Remote Desktop Connection - Access your Windows Computer Remotely (with Windows)
Before You Start
Warning: If you share your on-campus computer with someone else and they are logged on when you attempt to remote into it, you will be notified that someone else is logged on. If you choose to log them off, they will lose all work/files they have not saved.
Note: Students are not permitted to remotely connect to University computers unless faculty or staff have worked with ITS to provide access.
Instructions for On-Campus Computer
Open your File Explorer.
Right click on the This PC location in the left-side pane and select Properties.
Locate Computer Name section and record the Full computer name by writing it down, emailing it to yourself, or making a note in your phone.
This name should include a clarku.edu extension, for example, ITS-0012345.ad.clarku.edu
Click the Windows Icon in the bottom left of your desktop. Search for and select Edit Power Plan. Set the power option to Min Savings/Remote Desktop
Do not turn off your on-campus computer.
Instructions for the Off-Campus Windows Computer
Note: Prior to remoting into the on-campus device, your off-campus computer need to connect to Clark’s VPN. Instructions here: VPN Install & Connect.
On your Windows computer, click on the Start button and in the Start Search bar type “Remote Desktop”. Click on the Remote Desktop icon that appears.
When the Remote Desktop Connection window opens, click Show Options in the bottom left of the window.
Enter the computer name of your Clark computer that you recorded in Step 3 of the above section.
This name should include a clarku.edu extension, for example, ITS-0012345.ad.clarku.edu
Enter clarku\ followed by your Clark username in the username field.
Click Connect.
You will be prompted to verify the connection; click Yes.
When prompted to log onto your remote computer, use your Clark account username and password.
