WiFi for Faculty & Staff - Connecting on Mac (Personal Device)

Before You Start

Please complete these steps prior to arriving on campus.

  • Determine your current MacOS

    • Instructions here: Apple - Determine MacOS

  • Click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of your screen and select System Settings.

  • In the left pane in the System Settings window, click Network.

  • Select Firewall.

  • Enable Firewall by clicking the toggle button and inputting your computer username and password.

  1. Click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of your screen.

  2. Click About This Mac

  3. Click Software Updates.

  4. If you see the text “Other updates are available”, click More Info.

  5. Install all required operating system updates.

  6. Restart your computer.

  7. Repeat these instructions until there are no additional operating system updates.

  1. Click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of your screen.

  2. Select System Settings.

  3. If updates are available, you’ll see text reading Software Update Available at the top of the left pane. Click on it.

  4. In the Updates Available section, click the button labeled Update Now.

  5. Agree to licensing terms and conditions.

  6. Wait while the updated OS downloads to your computer.

  7. Your computer will restart automatically.

Clark University provides Sophos antivirus free of charge to all members of the Clark community. If you have a paid-for antivirus software on your computer, you must fully update it.

  1. Open a browser (such as Edge, Chrome or Firefox)

  2. Navigate to Antivirus on your Computer: Free for personally-owned machines

  3. Follow the detailed instructions on this page which includes the following steps:

    1. Receive a unique registration link

    2. Create a Sophos Home Account

    3. Download and Install Sophos

Connecting to WiFi

Warning: You must complete the above steps (upgrading & antivirus) to connect to the WiFi.

Connect to the ClarkWiFi network

  1. Click the Wi-Fi icon in the taskbar in the upper right of your screen.

  2. Click on ClarkWiFi.

  3. Enter your Clark account information (full email address and password).

  4. Click Join.

  5. If a window appears asking you to Verify Certificate, click Continue.

    1. If prompted, enter your computer credentials.

    2. Click Update Settings.

Install System Check

  1. When connected, you will receive a pop-up window with a link to Continue to Device Registration.

    1. If you don’t receive this window, open a browser and navigate to https://clarknet.clarku.edu

  2. Click on Continue to Device Registration (or I have a Clark Account)

    1. If prompted, click Allow.

  3. Log in with your Clark account.

  4. Click Step 1. Download Clear Pass OnGuard Agent

    1. If you receive a prompt, read the instructions and click OK.

  5. The software will save to your Downloads folder. Once the download is complete, double click on the file to open it.

  1. Click OK.

  2. Click on the Apple logo in the upper left corner of your screen. Open System Preferences (MacOS 12 or lower) or System Settings (MacOS 13 or higher)

  3. Click Security & Privacy.

  4. Click Open Anyway.

  5. When prompted, enter your computer credentials. Clear Pass OnGuard will begin to install.

  6. Follow the multiple prompts to install Clear Pass OnGuard and enter your computer credentials again if prompted.

Run System Check

  1. Return to the internet browser window and choose Step 2. Launch Clear Pass

    1. If you receive a prompt, read the instructions and click OK.

  2. Clear Pass OnGuard will check to ensure that your system has an up-to-date operating system, and up-to-date antivirus software.

  3. When complete, the webpage will reload and identify if the device has met the requirements.

    1. If the device failed a requirement, revisit the Before You Start section above to update your operating system or install antivirus software.

  4. Enter a nickname for your device that is descriptive.

    1. We recommend the device make and model, and year of registration.

    2. Example: Macbook Pro 2025

  5. Check the box to state that you have read and agree to the Appropriate Use policy.

  6. Click Register.

  7. Click OK.

Reset your WiFi connection

  1. Click the Wi-Fi icon in the toolbar along the top of your screen.

  2. Turn Wi-Fi off.

  3. Turn Wi-Fi on.

  4. Click on ClarkWiFi.

  5. Test your Wi-Fi by navigating to a preferred non-Clark website.
