What is a MAC address?

All computers have a unique numerical identifier called a MAC or Ethernet address that lets computer networks direct data traffic to the correct computer. This document will guide you through finding your MAC address on an Apple OS X computer.information is useful to have

Instructions

1. Click on the Apple icon at in the top left corner of the your screen and select the System Preferences optionSettings.

2. This will open In the left pane of the System Preferences window. From here you should select the Network icon.

3. This will open the Network window. Select the device you wish to find the MAC address of from the panel on the left. The most common ones are Ethernet (physical connection) and Airport (wireless).

4. Once you have selected your device click on the Advanced button.

5. You will now see the Advanced settings window. Click on the Ethernet tab and make note of the Ethernet ID. This sixteen digit number (with colons) is your MAC address.

3. Your MAC address will be displayed. The address is usually a combination of numbers and letters with colons.
